Baseball rules question

it happened in little league, but it may apply to all levels.
runner on first, ground ball to short where he is moving towards the bag to field the ball. he makes the play with his glove, the ball stays secured in his his glove, but he looses his footing and trips, thus forcing him to reach to the bag and tag 2nd with his hand before the runner reaches 2nd.
out or safe?

Out. Foot-hand-elbow, doesn't matter. Only matters if it's NOT a force and the ball is in the hand while runner is tagged with empty glove.

Out
No grey area at all
Out 100% of the time everytime

I have a question too..
why is it that on a foul tip strike three the umpire shows the tip sign then strike out?
wouldn't it not matter if that catcher catches the ball anyway?

thanks. that was the call the ump made, and i was almost certain it was the right call. the only scenario i could see where the ball is making a difference is if it was a tag out instead of a force out.
shouldn't have doubted myself with a bunch of bleacher dads.

Just in case the catcher would happen to drop it. He needs to clarify that it was in fact tipped

so even if the catcher drops it, he's still out?

Seriously?

Tell the dads to think of it this way. If he tags the base with his foot hea out right? So why would it be different with any other body part?

only if someone is on 1st base and there are less than 2 outs, on a foul tip he would never be out
