bama has granted Smith (CB) a release to play anywhere, including another SEC school. What's your opinion? Does this start a precedence?

With the amount of media this has garnered I feel they (Bama) had too. Does it force everyone else? Doubt it.

didnt les allow a db go to bama a while back?

Personally I think it is a horseshite rule that a coach can prevent a kid from transferring to a school within the conference but yet that same coach could switch jobs to any school he wishes to at any given time.

Phelon Jones, but those were extenuating circumstances, as his mother was ill I believe.

Well, he also let a QB go to Vanderbilt. Les is not a total dick though who is goi g to block backups out of irrational fear.

Shouldn't matter what Nick or Alabama does. This is a SEC conference rule and not Alabama's. Hopefully by the time the SEC rules on it the guy will realize he should have transferred out of the conference or sat out a year at Georgia.
I don't like Alabama or Nick Saban but this is about a college football player/young man who is a titty baby. His mother is probably down at the SEC offices right now trying to get them to hurry their decision.
I think the SEC should tell him he can transfer to UGA but he has to sit out a year. There are no extenuating circumstances that justify this player being allowed to circumvent the conference's rules. No sick parent he has to take care of, no sister(s), brother(s) left parent-less after the loss of a parent to take care of.
Screw him.
Mettengberger had to go to junior college for a year before coming to LSU from Georgia. If they rule in favor of this one player it will set a horrible precedent.

So a three star player can go to Vandy and blow up his sophomore year and be an all-SEC safety and then transfer to Bama for the next season because Bama's starting safety graduates or is injured. The recruiting process would never end until all eligibility had ended for some players.

The upcoming decision by the SEC offices affects LSU and all of LSU's players. Hell, for that matter depending on how they rule it can also affect Ole Miss, Miss St, A&M, etc's players who may be future LSU players because of allowing this kid to transfer in-conference with no penalty.

The rule is he can go where he wants after he graduates if the coach and school allow it. Saban was being his usual dick self and saying the thinks it was in the kid best interest to stay at Alabama. Like he knows more than the kid what that interest is. So you are wrong on the rule part.

Isn't that also an NCAA rule? I thought the various conference rules on sitting out after a transfer within conference dealt with sitting out a second year in addition to the one mandated by the NCAA. Has that changed?
I do realize there are certain exceptions to the NCAA rule (e.g. player has graduated but still has eligibility left and wants to pursue a graduate degree that is offered at another school).

Yeah sorry, didn't realize he graduated. If that's the case it should be cleared quickly by the SEC offices.

Correct he has graduated so if the school (coach) releases him he can go where he wants and play immediately. Miles has done it, as I said Saban was being a selfish prick like normal.

I get why schools don't want to allow transfers within the conference. But this should not apply for grad transfers. They have graduated and fulfilled an obligation. The school shouldn't be salty if the player wants to leave after that.

Les didn't allow TQuinn to transfer to sec school if I recall.

Good move.
The guy has one year left after graduating there and was a role player up to this point in his Bama career. Let him go anywhere and wish him well.
