as most of us with any sense know (and few predicted) , ESPN is reeling from the cord cutting phenomenon (losing an estimated 300,000 subscribers per month). they are cutting costs and salvaging profits (5 years to late) but regardless...

the BIG is the only power 5 conference left who is open for bidding in the upcoming decade; the major players to bid on the conference media rights are, of course, ESPN and FOX

As such, there are a few sides at the table.

Side 1: B1G with unprecedented negotiating power
Side 2: ESPN/Fox/CBS/NBC
Side 3: Consumers with more viewing options than ever before.

What gives? Does the price for access to the B1G drop? Does FOX outbid ESPN to get exclusive rights to the network?

IMO, ESPN needs to go straight streaming and pull the rug out from underneath the cable companies (ESPN is the only thing keeping them afloat).

I have cable and only watch espn for live events

I would actually argue that espn is killing cable companies because of the incredible cost of espn that they have to pass back to all consumers

I'm for any deal that ends 12:00 kickoffs, even if that means the Home and Garden Network

that cost exists because without ESPN as part of the package many, many people would drop cable tv.

I blame the Longhorn network for all of this.

Cable tv is changing and it is just the beginning of how you will content in the future

It's true for me at least. The only thing I watch on TV is basically South Park reruns and sports. I'm on Netflix or doing something else a majority of my down time

Why would you not want early kickoffs? I like football being on all day.

I have agreed with you on most of this Delany arrogance/stupidity and thought ala carte programming or streaming could kill the golden goose. That said, I have a feeling the cable companies would try to frick ESPN like they did Netflix on the ISP side to get their money back.

Fox will pay whatever the B1G demands to keep them. the B1G is Fox's lifeblood to relevant college sports on the east coast.

I mean the atmosphere is never going to be as good, but I agree I would rather watch Indiana vs. Illinois than have nothing on til 2pm

maybe, but if they go with FOX, they certainly wont have the distribution that ESPN currently has, which could hurt the conference

B1G network is already owned 51% by Fox as is, with the B1G itself owning the other 49%.

Ive read that ESPN would have to charge $30+ a month for streaming its family of channels. Thats double what HBO Go costs.

Really? Between Fox Network, Fox Sports 1, every regional FSN, and the BTN in every B1G market I think the B1G would have plenty of distribution by using the Fox networks as a platform. Then you have Fox Sports Radio pumping the BIG agenda on the airwaves.

I meant more personally... I hate having to get up at 8 on a Saturday, take the bus to campus, be in the stadium by 10, essentially being forced to eat lunch at the game, ect... I'm all for football at 12, but we should make it the Big 12, not the Big Ten
