Washington generals with the profile of George Washington taken from the US quarter fitting in seamlessly for the current redskin profile. The current redskin looks shockingly like Washington already.
Did a little photoshopping

They can even keep the name "Redskins"... because it's just a sunburned George Washington.

It's not a slur for Native Americans. It's just that George Washington has red skin in the logo.

Problem solved.

Call them the Cherry Blooms or Washington Monuments with that phallic sculpture on their helmet.

They will still suck.

How about the Hawgs with Honey Boodie on their noggin.

So if they were the Washington Brownskins everything would be ok? They're not named after a tribe. We damn near wiped out their entire culture and Andrew Jackson, who was a super bad arse, made them march from Georgia to Oklahoma during the winter. A Redskin is not a Brave, Seminole, or a Chief.

Geoarge Marshall the original owner of the team was a blatant bigot. He was one of the last guys to draft a black player, and there is numerous quotes of his players saying how he wanted them to take black players out.

I'm all for keeping tradition strong, but if it's done the correct way. A douche bag with rebel flag on his truck is not the same as a Civil War reenactment.

I think it's funny. It really looks like George Washington. Our founders did some awesome shite, but they did some pretty rough stuff too.

These are the whiniest threads ever. The name will change one day, and there is no reason you should make a big deal about it.

People on this thread's side of things make a bigger deal about this issue than anyone. Buncha whiny babies.

And now it's not racist because it's George Washington and not a native.

I never said i wasn't racist. I just understand why Native Americans would be pissed about the whole Redskin name.

I'm not a bleeding heart liberal, all I was doing was presenting the other side of the argument. Our past country leaders wiped their culture out. Redskin was/is a derogatory name to Native Americans given to them by the same people who sent blankets loaded with small pox.

So let's give the name to a Team, and that team be in the our nations capital. Pretty shitty IMO.

Merlins.

It's a hawk native to the area and a pun on Wizards.

It would be kind of funny if Daniel Snyder was like "okay, frick you guys... We're the Washington Snyders".

Stick with the basics and take a cue from Ottawa. Senators.

It will get changed one day IMO.

Only name that would fit their tradition would be the Hogs. If they were going to change, that would fit in with their championship teams of the 1980s and early 1990s, and you could make some badass logos off that name.

Not football related, but a good name for any team in Washington would be the Weasels.

I'm indifferent to the topic as I have absolutely no connection to the redskins, as others should feel

The only justification for a name change is think about it this way: if you had a team called the Yellowskins and had a Chinese mascot, it would be offensive

I'm just saying this one particular case is different than the Indians, Irish, Braves, etc

If Dan Snyder doesn't want to change it then it's his decision

Except they aren't. You know who is offended? Self-righteous white people who feel they should be offended on behalf of Native Americans. That's who started this whole thing. Not Native Americans.

Native Americans actually like the name. There have been polls done, and something like only 5% of Native Americans do not like the name.

There are Native American high schools with the mascot name "Redskins". They embrace it.

Nobody intends for the name to be derogatory. It's lost any derogatory connotation it may have had. The name has no derogatory meaning anymore, and Native Americans do not see it as such, either. So who is it offending?

Nobody.

It's self-righteous white people trying to right a wrong that doesn't exist.

Not relevant. One need not be a certain race to find it objectionable.
