3 runs on 4 hits, just one out in the 1st inning.

Anyone not worried about him in the postseason is not paying attention.

I strongly dislike him but we have to hope this weird thing he has going with bad teams doesn’t apply to the postseason.

I wouldn't go that far. I strongly dislike that he doesn't seem to think he needs a changeup.

A flawed stat that just really values strikeouts.

It values striking hitters out, limiting walks and keeping the ball in the ballpark….the three main things a pitcher controls. Far from a perfect stat, but ERA isn’t either.

I dislike him for personal reasons. He actually just bought a house in my neighborhood last fall right before the playoffs. I’ve known his family since he was in middle school and actually used to go watch him in HS. Was very excited when the Braves originally drafted him.

His wife lives here pretty much throughout the season. They have a house in Buckhead as well where he lives in season. His wife is very nice but he is difficult. No one gives a shite who he is around here or bothers him at all but he carries himself like he’s Taylor Swift-level famous. Very odd. Not saying he’s a bad guy like he’s a criminal or anything but I know several people who know him a lot better than me and you would have trouble finding somebody with good things to say about him.

But doesn't account for the ball being put in play in that a basehit is valued (or not valued) the same as an error.

That's dumb.

ETA: For example, Washington is averaging an EV above 90mph these two innings against Strider, but because 4 of his 6 outs have been K and he hasn't allowed a homer, his FIP is great despite having allowed 3 runs in 2 innings.

All that said, we need him to be dominant or at least very very good to have a chance in the playoffs.

There is a lot of random variation on balls in play. FIP treats it like pitchers have no control of them, which clearly isn’t 100% right. But acting like pitchers have 100% control over it is also wrong.

Strider has the second lowest xERA (expected ERA) in baseball which takes into count the EV and launch angle of every batted ball.

I would love to see Murphy's spray chart since July just to see how many grounders to 3rd and SS he's hit.

FIP is a predictive stat, and it's useful for that if you are looking to see if a player has been unlucky for stretches. It is not a stat in and of itself. At the end of the day what actually happens on the field is what matters.

Some pitchers just suck with players on base and consistently underperform their peripherals, Javier Vazquez being a good example back in the day.

Hopefully that doesn't wind up being the case with Strider (getting a consistent third pitch would help).

Murphy can't be doing that behind the plate when he is hitting this bad.

Acuna with number 73. But of course all the butt hurt anti Braves people will tell you it doesn’t matter or is tainted. You know, since Mookie only has 14 and it kills any case he has for MVP.
