I think we're all in agreement that he is insanely talented. But when you're constantly missing starts left and right especially as the touted next Nolan Ryan was it worth all the money the Nationals spent on him?

Apparently he doesn't do well in the heat. Which is something I just can't wrap my head around. He's a baseball player, he's been playing his entire life, how in the frick has your body not adjusted to it? In six years of being in the MLB he has made only 146 starts. I get it, one year he had Tommy John. And I also get that he has a 10-0 record. But you're scheduled to pitch against the best pitcher in baseball and you sit out? Come on man, give your team a chance.

Like I said, he is an other worldly talent but I'm sorry, he needs to toughen the frick up.

Yes he has a positive return on investment.

Go look at the wasteland of #1 picks.

Different era. He doesn't have the luxury of steroids or "magic rubs" the older players had.

look at his numbers, he has been worth it. Ask the Maringers if they would trade picks.

You think if the Mariners had to do it over again they would have taken Mike Trout over Dustin Ackley?

2010-2.5 WAR-came up halfway through season, was great. made 12 starts
2011-1.1 WAR-5 starts, was great, TJ surgery
2012-4.0 WAR-came back from TJ, limited innings, was still great
2013-3.3 WAR-30 starts, full season, good once again
2014-4.4 WAR-34 starts, full season, damn good
2015-3.4 WAR-only 23 starts, first setback since TJ, still very good
2016-2.5 WAR-made 14 starts already, on pace for over 30, one of the best in baseball this year.

He's 16th in WAR since he came up, and that includes a half season his rookie year, and a missed year for TJ surgery. Where else does he rank in that time?

13th in ERA, 6th in FIP, 3rd in xFIP, 2nd in SIERA, 3rd in K/9

He's easily one of the best pitchers this decade, and has really only missed significant time because of TJ. He's 27, healthy, and is having the best season of his career. He's going to be dominant for the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure how relevant this stat is to making your point. In comparison, Nolan Ryan made 151 starts in his first 6 complete seasons (not counting his first season when he only had 1 start).

Strasburg has pitched 777 innings through his most recent 5 years (2012-16) with the current season not yet at the halfway point.
During Ryan's first 5 complete seasons (68-72),he pitched 790 innings.

Strasburg will have pitched more innings over a comparable 5 year period.
