Astros 10 months of internal trade talks leaked

Two years ago, the Houston Astros constructed "Ground Control"—a built-from-scratch online database for the private use of the Astros front office.
The database got leaked and posted online. Pretty interesting stuff.

You will find heavy efforts to get a big haul for Bud Norris at last year's trade deadline (before settling for very little), pushes to acquire touted young talents like Dylan Bundy and Gregory Polanco, and even evidence the Astros rejected out of hand a blockbuster deal that could have brought them Giancarlo Stanton.

Interesting stuff, no doubt.
They missed on moving Harrell. But, I'm sure clubs miss all the time. Not just the Astros.
There's not alot in there that I can say that they SHOULD have done. Nothing earth shattering anyway.
No way I would have done Stanton. Trade Correa and Springer to Miami for a guy that will more than likely go to a big market team next year.
No thanks.

I wish we could see the inner workings of these types of things more often. Sure, we all see the trade that does go through, but we rarely see what doesn't.
For example, I'd love to see all the official "packages" these NBA teams are setting out for LeBron.

this will make a huge difference in the near future of the Astros....

What packages?
LeBron is a FA not being traded. The most they can offer is a max deal.

Lebron is a FA but for many teams that will require a sign and trade. Same as how The Heat acquired him

LeBron isn't going anywhere that needs to sign and trade. That completely defeats the purpose.

This isn't a LeBron thread.
Go to your nearest SportsCenter thread, I'm sure there are plenty of LeBron nonsense going on there.

Ugh.
They also have to show him what other moves they are going to make regardless of his status. I wasn't just talking trades specifically to one player. But front office moves in general.
I think it would be very cool to see all these little deals. Things like what Draft Day pick trades didn't happen when a team was considering 3 offers and so on. Sometimes you hear about the offer that wasn't accepted, but usually you only hear about the ones that are. The "What Ifs" are fun to think about.

Yankees had a deal for King Felix but would not surrender Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlin.....
Imagine Felix in NY now

Exactly.
Stanton is going to bolt for a big market team as soon as he gets a chance.
Dodgers, IMO.
By the team he's a FA, Kemp will be gone. I'm sure they won't have a problem clearing off whatever cap room the need to clear.

I also just caught the part about the Rockies bid for Abreu. Abreu at Coors in that lineup is crazy to think about

How's that?

I was going to ask the same thing.

I mean I can see the point being made that GM's won't like their business being put out there but I don't buy it. I wouldn't say the Astros are prone to something like this. And when all is said and done, a GM only has 29 other teams with which he can deal. At the end of the day, he'll be looking to make the deal that's best for his team regardless of who's on the other end.
And really, other than seeing the actual inner workings of deals the dialogue isn't that surprising.
GM 1: Hey GM 2 are you interested in moving this guy?
GM 2: Possibly. It would take this prospect and this prospect though.
GM 1: I don't think so. I'll get back to you.
That's pretty much the entire thing. GM's discuss shite like that constantly.

GM 2: Thanks. If you change your mind, don't hesitate to call at all!
GM 1: Nah, you let you emails get hacked. I'll never do business with you again even if you offered me your highest prospects.
That's basically what the writers @ Crawfish Boxes are implying.

I mean shite, if you read moneyball there was conversations about Beane doing the same thing. Being on the phone with multiple GMs discussing trades, backing out of a trade with one team to go in with another.
