Depends.

NBA: give me the cheap contract and a ring

Any other sport I would take the most ridiculous contract possible

Great contact all day. I'd bet more than 90 percent of of athletes would do the same. When you remove the fandom and romanticism of sports, they are an extremely well paying job. I'm sure winning a title becomes more important to some these guys after they are completely set for life. I also think that most players think they can can still win a title despite their huge contracts.

take the $$ and any coach worth their salt would tell them the same.

Championships are great but they don't pay the bills for these kids.

I don't think we are talking about college championships.

What's a great contract, 100 million vs 5? If it's ridiculous money I'd have to take the money. If not I could see how having a ring could help you the rest of your life as opposed to just having been overpaid for a few years.

Great contract is top 5% of a particular sport. We are taking about Aaron Rodgers, Kevin Durant money. Good Contract is somebody like Jamal Charles...around 7 mil/year which is still plenty to give a good life 5x. But with less money, you're called a champion the rest of your life. Is it worth it?

In that scenario, yes, it's worth it IMO.

I think I would take the ring. Either way I am a millionaire many times over.

I say this as a highly competitive person who probably has some issues, hell I am unable to even throw a board game to my kids. So winning would mean a lot to me, especially at that level.

I would take the contract. Charles Barkley never won a ring and he built a great career after basketball.

I think if a good contract is 50 mil and a great contract is 65 mil, I would take the 50mil plus the ring. At what point is the money enough for you and you get to live with the memories of winning a championship with the Patriots rather than playing for the jags.

Just one ring? I'd take the money. If it's 100 million over 7 vs say 28 million over 7, you'd have to chip in 3 or 4 rings and I would have to be the hero in at least one of those seasons for me to even start thinking about it.

If it's NBA. I'd take 15-20 mill a year over 25 mill a year for a few rings. shite id take 10 mill a year if I was guaranteed 4+ rings.

I would take a good-great contract in a city I enjoy living in.

I wouldn't really care too much about a ring in the NFL, NBA, or MLS. I may go the Ray Bourque route in the NHL in order to win the cup. Go to a cup contender in the last 2-3 years of my career.

I would do what every athlete does, take the contract and still think you are going to win the title.
