Was I watching the wrong video and Artest actually stabbed him and didn't just throw an elbow?

I didn't make my point very well, those leagues seem to be dishing out disproportionate penalties for things in an attempt to brace for oncoming litigation.

I still say 5.

Anyone who thinks he's getting less than five games for this is crazy.

Finally watched the play after seeing all the posts... that was pretty nasty. When you do something like that it could honestly be tried as an assault. That has nothing to do with the game at all. That wasn't a hard foul during a play. That was Ron trying to cause an injury with an a Bones Jones elbow.

James Harden is diagnosed with a concussion. You guys still think he should only be suspended 2-5 games?

You really can't play around with concussions in pro sports today. The lawsuits are a big deal. I think they have to hit him pretty hard. I could see 5 games minimum. I would do double for that. That was a violent play and he does stuff like this too much. JJ Barea took one in the face in last years playoffs. I understand hard fouls or shoving matches but you can't allow a guy to cheap shot people in the face or head. That was a serious injury tonight that could have much worse. Guys like Rudy T have had their career destroyed by displays like that.

He won't get 20 games but he deserves it. He sucker punched a guy so hard that he had to leave with a concussion. Concussions have serious lingering impact. Harden is going to miss 2 games plus part of today's game and he did nothing wrong. I realize it is a contact sport but that is still assault. He struck a defenseless person in the head will an elbow at full force and caused a brain injury. This isn't really an "oh well sports are rough" situation in my opinion.

Could we stop the silliness?

besides having the bone structure of his face detached from his skull and suffering a cerebral concussion and broken jaw and nose, he was leaking blood and spinal fluid into his skull capsule. His skull was fractured in such a way that Tomjanovich could taste the spinal fluid leaking into his mouth. He later recalled that at the time of the incident, he believed the scoreboard had fallen on him. The doctor who worked on Tomjanovich said "I have seen many people with far less serious injuries not make it" and likened the surgery to Scotch taping together a badly shattered eggshell

I understand that, however Kermit Washington's blow was only a punch. That punch just happened to have perfect placement to cause that much damage.

Ron threw that elbow blind. There was enough force behind it to do incredible damage if he had hit somewhere other than his ear. It wouldn't have taken much at all for that to be a broken nose or orbital bone.

That was a dangerous elbow he threw. He's lucky that a concussion was the only injury.

you are of course free to your own opinion but he has already been suspended by the NBA for more than that in the past

If the victim wanted to go the legal route it seems to me he could also sue for monetary damages and request that charges be pressed for felony assault

Umm no, 5 games isn't enough. He gave harden a concussion, on purpose, in a non basketball move.. That's a playoff ban to me

I really agree on this. I hate flopping in the NBA and I miss some of the enforcers but there is a difference between rough physical play and a cheap shot like this.

Todd Bertuzzi's shot in the NHL was only a cheap shot punch that went terribly wrong. Moves like this are dangerous and just because nobody broke their neck or had a skull fracture, the possibility for serious injury was there and can't be tolerated.

Artest needs to be punished fairly strongly for creating a situation that put one of the leagues players in danger. I really don't understand why people think this elbow was no big deal when it looked to have way more force than Todd Bertuzzi's sucker punch.

Harden got a 2 game suspension based on the concussion. I couldn't see how anyone could think he should miss the same amount of games as the guy he injured. I think 5 games is the minimum you could possibly punish the guy without causing a huge stir.
