Help settle a debate with a friend

Also, what constitutes someone being a superstar? Winning? Popularity? Stats?

I think both are arguably superstars, but Love much moreso than Irving.

They both play solid ball when dressed as old dudes though.

To me a superstar is somebody with the athletic talent but they transcend that talent and enter the main stream media. This can be done through commercials, charity, acting, etc.

Love isn't there. Kyrie is maybe trending there.

Popularity/recognition is what makes a superstar.

Very few "Superstars" to me.

Lebron and KD at their current level and other guys like Kobe/Duncan that have Superstar legacies.

I'm not sure either of them are top 5 at their respective positions

So no, they're not superstars

Superstar doesn't have much to do with positional ranking to me.

It's more about going to somebody who knows nothing about sports on the street and saying do you know who______ is and them knowing them.

Yea being good is a component, but being top 10 is probably good enough

Id say there are only 4-5 "superstars" in the league

That's your criteria for superstar?

That's a pretty high bar IMO.

Offensive beast early in his career, but not an all-around player and doesn't current rank among Top 50 in PER in the NBA (54th). Obviously PER is not be-all-end-all, but it's kind of revealing.

Barely cracks the Top 50 in PER.

Superstars today in the NBA

Melo
Wade
Lebron
Kobe
Howard
Harden
Durant
Westbrook
Rose
Duncan

I'm sure I'm missing one but that's about it imo.

LBJ
KD
Kobe

Duncan?
Dwight?
Blake?
Dirk?
DWade?

I'm sure I left off some big names, but off the top of my head that's what I can think of.

ETA: Melo and D Rose, but that's just as much due to off the court drama
