This is a remote but real possibility if alabama wins the CFP and FSU handles UGA and is the only undefeated team left.

Not sure if the coaches poll still has a trophy, but I think the AP still awards a champion. Would love to see it happen.

Would be awesome if FSU wins...and even better if Bama loses the first round game.

Depends on who you ask. The AP has been an "opinion award" for 87 years and everyone but LSU fans recognize 2003 USC as national champs. It means less than the BCS or CFP chpionship, but ultimately, it's claimable and FSU would and should claim it along with their other championships.

You 100% know if it was LSU that everyone here would claim it and rightfully so.

I don't even recognize LSU's 1958 MNC. So there!

LSU is in the SEC. Undefeated LSU gets in no matter what. Hell 1 loss Bama gets in no matter what lol. Its just not a possibility. FSU had the unfortunate reality that the last 2 teams they beat without Jordan Travis just went good. You had a BAD florida team and a horrendously overrated Louisville team to close their year out with, both of which they struggled for 4 quarters with. Had FSU beat a top 10 10-1 Florida and a top 6 11-1 Clemson to win the ACC they would have gotten in no question. But the problem was all signs pointed to FSU being a terrible team without JT.

No way this happens. Also, the bowls are discounted by opt outs.

FSU will 100% claim a national championship this year and even though without Travis they wouldn’t win most likely, I don’t blame them at all. They deserved a chance I don’t care if Travis was out. They did everything they needed to do.

Isn’t our current CFP put on by ESPN and not the NCAA? An undefeated power 5 champion with a win over the 2 time defending champion does have a strong claim, especially if Texas or Bama wins the playoff and FSU is the only undefeated.

I have heard multiple talking heads, none of them LSU alums or fans, say only one team got a crystal football that season.

But the NCAA does recognize them as a national champion and they should have been the team LSU played for the Natty that season IMO.

Back then it was the standard for someone to get left out and it was the computers that decided it. Now we have a 4 team playoff where people choose. FSU’s resume is as good as they could’ve done and unlike USC that year they finished undefeated. Maybe they could’ve beaten Florida and Louisville a little more convincingly but Bama needed 2 miracles against Auburn and they were using their starting QB.

I feel WAY more sympathy for FSU than I did for USC. The Committee didn’t “just look for the best teams” they did this solely because they didn’t think their backup QB was good enough. That’s why this is wrong.

FSU should absolutely claim it if they win. they would have bama's best win plus are undefeated.

If we're being honest, the CFP is selected by the opinions of 13 people, too.
