the same michael olowokandi that averaged 9/8 as a rookie and maxed out at 12/9?

The whole class was bad... Cody Zeller at #4? He isn't top 10 or maybe even top 15 any other year.

Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan
Greg Oden over Kevin Durant
Greg Oden over Kevin Durant

Bowie wasn't the first pick.

The fact that nobody mentions that Hakeem was taken over MJ is a great testament to how great of a player he was.
But the Rockets did reject trading Moses Malone for Drexler and Portland's 1st rounder. Draft Jordan with that pick, and the Rockets have:
MJ
Drexler
Olajuwon
10 championships

He played very well in college. He just seems to be one of those people who was fighting for that nba paycheck and now that he's got it, he couldn't care less about the game.

I thought he was gonna be really REALLY good hahahaha.

This is one of those anyone with a brain could see coming from a mile away. It's mind boggling people get paid millions of dollars to be this stupid.
This. I cannot believe that people who get paid a lot of money to evaluate talent as their only job, are so bad at it.
It is too early to call him a bust though. What about the kid Michael Jordan drafted, did he ever produce in the NBA?

Was Kwame Brown a #1?

Oden over durant doesn't count but it still doesn't get nearly enough shite that it should get. Everyone with a brain saw exactly what happened coming. There is not even an alternate universe where oden is a dominant center Bc he just wasn't gonna stay healthy ever
And literally everyone knew for a fact that durant was a franchise changer

Pre-draft, I'm only aware of one major for Oden: the wrist. Otherwise he looked like the best big prospect, at least since Dwight Howard but possibly dating back to Shaq. Look at his pre-draft measurements and test results. Oden was the definition of a freak.
Even after two MAJOR injuries, he looked dominant in 2009-2010: 11 ppg, 60% fg, 8.5 rpg, 2.3 bpg in 24 mpg. Those are pretty insane numbers. Plus, in the games leading up to his most recent injury, he looked like a 20, 12, 4 type of guy, despite being hobbled and having diminished athleticism..
Not fair to call Oden a true 'bust' when injuries robbed him of a chance at an NBA career, imo. Definitely sucks for all parties not named the Thunder, though.

I remember reading something where they polled a bunch of GM's and pretty much everyone said they would draft Oden over Durant.

A lot of people were scared of how skinny he was.

Think he couldn't bench press the weight not one time at the combine.

Yup, and IIRC they only bench like 185 in the NBA!

yeah and in the most boss interview answer of all time, they were like "you cant bench the weight, what the frick is up?" he was like, "while everyone else was in the weight room, i was busy in the gym getting better at basketball"
full disclosure: i think kevin durant is the absolute shite. i watched really close to every game of his in college because it was an absolute joy to experience. oden was great and on a great team but durant was so obviously on the next level that it was premium entertainment each time he stepped on the floor.

I remember! The dude is weak as shite but he is tall, lanky and can BALL!!! I still have no idea if a healthy Oden would have been better but goddamn he was a hell of a #2 pick!
