he took the money. Did he think Matt schuab was the answer?!? He wants it both ways. I'm ok with him leaving, but this "poor baby Andre" nonsense is ridiculous

I'm not on Andre Johnson's side.

He signed a contract.

He's not holding up his end of the agreement.

After years and years of being an absolute class act. He has never been the typical WR prima donna.

He is 32 and time is running out on winning a super bowl. It won't happen in Houston in the next 2 or 3 years before he has to retire.

He had his chance to leave but signed the extension because he wanted the money. I do not understand anybody feeling sorry for him. A lot of class act guys never win super bowls.

Andre is offering to put in extra workout time at the facility to makeup the time and the Texans said no. And fyi it's a workout bonus, not a roster one. Johnson's contract has been reworked to ease the Texans salary cap herp derp.

You may now carry on gasbagging.

No one feels sorry for him, but we also aren't going to crucify him for wanting to be traded.

he's restructured the contract he signed several times to help the team. He's getting older and doesn't want to be a part of a total rebuild. I don't blame him

fair enough. Like I said, if I were texans brass, I would tell his agent to broker a deal to move him. When they find a deal were ok with, send him packing

Exactly. He wants to win a championship and I understand it. I think most Houston fans feel the same way. I'm excited to see what DeAndre Hopkins can do as a number one option. Hopefully there's no hard feelings with AJ and he ultimately looks back on his Houston years fondly.

if that money were so important to him, he should have fulfilled his end of the bargain. "after practice laps" doesn't work in the NFL, it's not high school anymore

my apologies for using the incorrect terminology. I will do better in the future.

probably bc of all the times we redid his deal bc he wanted more money. He's complicit in the help derping

sorry for partying?

I'm sorry you don't approve of my pro business stance. Kinda like how every saints fan thinks jimmy graham is as good as any WR in the league, yet told him tough titties on the franchise tag designation

True. The thing is that he has acted in good faith in the past to help out the Texans as an organization. The Texans should return the favor.

not sure what that has to do with anything, as i neither referenced the saints and actually have never even commented on the Jimmy Graham contract issue, at all, on TD.com
just a lame deflection attempt i guess?

I would be agreeable to giving him a chance to make back his million but it would be in incentives, not "extra workout time" at the facility, in season. He passed up his chance to make seven figures for pumping some iron and running sprints.

And, to be fair, sure he "helped" the Texans with restructures but, unless someone can correct me, it wasn't liked he gave up money. He just adjusted the manner in which it would be paid for cap purposes. Most restructures actually give the player his money quicker, since a signing bonus is the easiest way to give a team cap relief.

I don't know of any Saints fan who would take Jimmy Graham over Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Andre Johnson, AJ Green, Julio Jones, etc

Not exactly as I see it. He signed a contract that if he plays with the Texans then he is paid money by the Texans. He isn't obligated to play for them. They don't own him. He can quit playing if he wants. He's just exercising his natural leverage to incentivize a trade. It's well within the structure of the contract.

If the situation was reversed, and the Texans had no need for AJ, then they wouldn't hesitate to cancel the contract, which by similar reasoning as you showed wouldn't be holding up their end of the agreement. As I see it they're both just playing by the rules available to them.

He took way less guaranteed money in his extension. He represented himself in the situation too, which the Texans took advantage of

quote:

In his negotiated extension he received a raise of just $3.325 million, none of which would be paid until 2008. He was guaranteed next to nothing and the contract structure was such that he never carried a cap hit in the extension years that would exceed $8.65 million. In addition the signing bonus was so small that he could have been released very quickly had he been injured or ineffective. For that tiny guarantee and raise he was locked in at a price of $7.468 million per year for the next 8 years.

So he actually received less money up front. Very team friendly deal compared to his equals:

quote:

The following season Larry Fitzgerald received a contract extension from the Arizona Cardinals that was worth $10 million a year and only added another two years onto Fitzgerald’s contract. Fitzgerald received $20 million in real guarantees and millions more in injury protection. Fitzgerald played on a better team and had better numbers but the contract terms were a major difference.
