Don't think guys like Kemba, Steve Francis, Jimmer Fredette, Juan Dixon or Adam Morrison should count in this.

Actually isn’t Morrison the perfect example if you by his first tourney run? Didn’t he make a name for himself over the course of a few tournaments that led to him being a household name and POY later in his career? I could be way off base here but seems like that was the case.

Na he was all conference his first 2 years and then his Jr year was POTY
He averaged double digits his freshman year and was a household name by his sophomore year (due a lot to the Gonzaga hype machine)
He was the 3rd overall pick and was talked about it well before his Jr year.

I’m talking about guys like the NIU player or Loyola Chicago’s PG etc

Lsu’s 6’6” center Ricky Blanton. Non LSU, the entire butler teams that went to back to back championship games in 2010 and 2011. The 2011 team was a 8th seed!

Love this answer, but dude fits none of OPs criteria.

No one really talked about much on the national level,

was not the national player of the year

didn't have many or any pre/postseason accolades,

weren't first round/lottery picks with long NBA career

They're my two favorite Ramblers ever anyway, so I'll say Donte Ingram and Ben Richardson.

Honorable mention to Tyson Wheeler.

Marcus Brown

Murray

Jc transfer

Brilliant junior year.
Nearly took out unc and Rasheed in 1 v 16
Was intentionally injured at the last play of ovc championship the next year.
Never the same.
Taken 2nd round. Flopped.
Healed up and was a star for cska moscu.
