Not bad. Gary Patterson should be in there.

meh

We outplayed them this year and should've won. Saban even said so. Our defense is our rock and laid 1.5 minute egg.

The only reason why I left Patterson off is because TCU looked kind of meh in the Big 12 this year. Patterson obviously had no problem dominating the MWC, but it remains to be seen if he can thrive in a top conference. It's only been 1 season and Pachall was hurt as I noted earlier...

His star has faded a bit, but he's still a great coach no doubt.

I cannot stand when people do this. You can think Miles is a terrible coach for many reasons but what you cannot do is claim that a bowl game he won in 2008 had anything to do with Saban.

By that rationale, at LSU Saban was:

3-1 with Dinardo's players
0-1 with his own players

And Miles doens't come in and win all those games if Saban hadn't turned it around.

But that's just pure speculation. Maybe Miles could have rebuilt LSU from it's dark ages without following in Saban's footsteps. We'll never know. Certainly citing to Miles' bowl record at Ok State does not lend credence to your argument that he is a terrible coach (Saban was 0-3 in bowls at Mich State).

While I agree that Saban is clearly the better coach, deriding Miles as a terrible coach because he's continued to win following Saban's departure is just dumb. Maintaining a winning program after the departure of a great coach is difficult. Don't believe me? Ask Ron Zook, Bill Callahan, Lane Kiffin, Larry Coker, etc. In fact, please name some examples where someone took over a powerhouse program and the program didn't miss a beat the way Miles has done at LSU.

He's not terrible, but certainly not top 5.

TCU was tied with Texas for starting the most true freshmen in the entire nation. They started 16 true freshmen, which is absolutely insane. And they still managed to beat UT, Baylor, and OSU and go 7-6 for the season.

That is a hell of a coaching job, especially after losing your starting QB to drug rehab.

GP is no doubt in my mind a top 10 coach in football.

How could anyone have expected LSU to get past the 50 yard line last year when Miles chose to go down with his ego and pride rather than doing the right thing? He chose to play the worst quarterback on the team for the entire game. It was predictable and its situations like that one that shows why Miles is a below average coach and an even worse decision maker. I can't imagine his IQ being higher than maybe 80-85 at best.

If Sumlin is on it, you might have to put Sonny Dykes up there. Dykes really outcoached him the last 2 years in head-to-head matchups.

He also wasn't as good of a coach at LSU as he is at Alabama.

1. Meyer - Great seasons at 3 different schools now.
2. Miles - Tell me how many other coaches have a 6-7 record against Saban+Meyer?
3. C. Kelly - Oregon has been at the top for 3 straight seasons now.
4. B. Stoops - Don't care how poor OU has done in big games, they have dominated the Big 12 since Stoops has been there.
5. Peterson - 2 undefeated seasons and has never had fewer than 10 wins in a season.

I think we laid an egg. I also think we beat that team earlier in the year at their place and both teams were far and away the best 2 last year. I also think LSU wins it all any other with that squad.

The fact that he took that team to a NCG game with those two QBs, much less being undefeated, shows hes a top 3 coach.

Urban and Chip have the best chances of beating Saban outside of the SEC.

Sumlin and Miles have the best chance within. Frick we are screwed

Gary Patterson was mediocre this season in the Big 12 (albeit they lost their QB)

They were also the youngest team in the country behind Ohio State (LSU was 3rd). They lost their QB, top 2 RBs, and 2 OL starters that they thought they were going to have going into the season. That's rough.
