I think we all knew this was going to be the result. I see no reason why they should reward players for being shitty free throw shooters, and that is basically what Silver is saying here. There would be no incentive for players to work on being good ft shooters. I also see the point that people will make about exploiting a rule that may be dumb and not enforced the same as other intentional or flagrant fouls.

Sometimes rules are strictly changed for aesthetics: this is a spectator sport. It is for entertainment. And this shite makes it painful to watch.

See the illegal defense rule. It has little to no merit, but makes the game much more entertaining.
