Nailed it. Why do you think an 80 QB rating in 1977 was Top 5, but in 2016 would get you ranked about 25th? It's not because players are better, it's all the rule changes that favor the offense and QB's. This shite now is glorified 7 on 7. In fact, many of these "glory boys" QB's wouldn't have made it 5 years in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's when it was allowed to actually hit the QB.

Greatness in NFL QBs is linked to SB appearances
Maybe for you, and the other casual fans, it is. But that's not a blanket statement.

Yes, he's statistically great, but his team has no run game, so he has to be

Right now, he's in the same league as Joe Flacco and Brad Johnson

Until he wins another, that's where I put him. I hate watching GB games bc all the announcers do is slob his knob and then blame the lack of run game when he throws picks.
Best post ever!!!

That sounds completely stupid, but I get what he is saying and feel like Shel actually made my argument for me trying to counter my post about overvaluing TD pass numbers. I think it's pretty fricking stupid to say Rodgers > Brady if Rodgers just gets more cracks to score the ball given factors like Brady having a TD vulture in Blount. It's like fantasy football scoring numbers have warped everyone's brains when distinguishing between these top QBs.

Speaking of which, the MSB has become so predictable in trotting out WAR/VORP/PER/QBR I actually welcome the eyeball test of old farts like Ajax and PJ to explain differences in generations/players.

A Longhorn fan should like Rodgers, especially after Mack Brown cucked him and Cal out of the Rose Bowl in 2004.

Dusty Mangum for the win!

Everyone always knocks Rodgers for the "easy" passing TDs inside the 10.

Interesting stat:

Eyeball test is great. But it fails to have much use after 20 or 30 years. Memory is a fragile thing and what you remember is rarely what actually happened.

The above stat is a great example. In your mind, you remember Rodgers passing near the GL on a much more consistent basis than Brady. Yet when you look at the numbers, they are nearly dead even over the past 5 years. Memory is not to be trusted.

Can you throw Brees up there if you have it? I thought the much celebrated consecutive game TD pass streak was so stupid.

Its amazing how a hot streak can make people forget about how bad he was earlier this year

Or how a bad streak makes people forget one's entire career?

Also, his top target who is the best player at his position has basically missed the whole year.

Let's not forget that the packers are starting a fifth string WR at RB. Teams know they are paying and still can't stop it. Pats have a solid run game
