Nine in 10 Native Americans say they are not offended by the Washington Redskins name, according to a new Washington Post poll that shows how few ordinary Indians have been persuaded by a national movement to change the football team’s moniker.

The survey of 504 people across every state and the District reveals that the minds of Native Americans have remained unchanged since a 2004 poll by the Annenberg Public Policy Center found the exact same result. Responses to The Post’s questions about the issue were broadly consistent regardless of age, income, education, political party or proximity to reservations.

Has nothing to do with the debate in question but this survey has some poor methodology.

Wish research methods were still taught in school/taken seriously by journalists.

who cares what they think? I'll let old white men in suits tell me what I should or shouldn't be offended by.

I worked with several native guys and their response was basically "we have much larger issues facing our community than the name of a football team."

That's the thing about white liberals.

They don't care that most native Americans are not offended.

They just think that they should be and are therefore offended for them.

Typical of the paternalistic nature of much of their thought processes.

Can you please explain the "poor methodology"?

I've been trying to tell people this for a long time. Getting offended on behalf of someone else is degrading and insulting to them. The liberal outrage and white knighting for others is so hypocritical.

The only people who care about this are people who stand to make a name and money for themselves.

Sure. It's a survey, surveys are prone to all sorts of issues which can affect the validity of the study. Among them:

- Response bias due to the phrasing of the question (a five level Likert scale would have been more precise, but still prone to issues)
- not a large enough sample to be considered representative of the NA population
- sample was pulled out of convenience, ie people who were easy to reach via cell phone
- participants were asked to self identify as NA
quote:

"The poll, which has a 5.5 percentage-point margin of sampling error, was conducted by randomly calling cellular and landline phones. It asked questions only of people who identified themselves as Native American, after being asked about their ethnicity or heritage."

Not exactly the most scientific study here. It is interesting though and worth considering.

Doesn't matter if the native people offended are 10 out of 10, 1 out of 10, or 0 out of 10. The white SJWs will always be offended on their behalf so the debate will rage on

I agree that the methods were suspect, but it was conducted at the behest of an online blog/newspaper.

What is telling is that it mirrors the results of a survey conducted 5 years ago, so I believe it's more right than wrong.

And getting offended over an issue that has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU OR YOUR CULTURE because a member of that culture was actually offended by it makes even less sense.

"I'm sick of these pussy liberals being offended by everything, so I'm going to run to the MSB every time something happens to tell on them." How can that not be more pussified than what they're bitching about?
