BS should hire Rob Perez and pay him just to cover police chases and Knicks games.

I would imagine if he moves on with BS, they'd be at least on a weekly NBA podcast together.

Mays was damn near crying on the pod after Bill got fired. I like him better than Barnwell but can't say either is irreplaceable. Losing Lowe would hurt them.

Jonah Keri would be a huge pull for Bill, but I just don't see it.

From what I understand, considering the boost they got from ESPN, they really did not live up to expectations.

Deadspin's Grantland Article

Don't get me wrong, I understand they are basically competing websites, but buried deep in the article is this.

quote:

February
March
SB Nation
21,009,000
20,298,000
Deadspin
11,943,000
8,809,000
Grantland
5,303,000
6,003,000
The A.V. Club
4,901,000
4,406,000

Considering Grantland employed some high profile, high dollar talent and lots of regular employees they were not getting the job done against the competition in the unique clicks category.

Used to to listen to barnwell's podcast. It was pretty decent.

Grant land pop culture podcasts will take a with no Greenwald. Especially watch the thrones.

SB nation is fricking click bait though. You get linked there from their parent sites and read like 200 word super obvious articles. Think Simmons said like only 30% of their traffic came from links from other sites. 70% went just to grantlant. You think 70% of sports nations visitors went straight to sports nation?

All I care about is Lowe, Keri & Greenwald. I really don't like Barnwell's writing and Rembrandt's opinions on pop culture rarely align with my own.

According to Simmons, ESPN did absolutely nothing to help promote grantland.

Keri's response on twitter to someone saying he wonders who the 4 are was "hi". Or something to that affect. So...

I completely agree with him. I never even knew there was a connection between ESPN and Grantland until a year or so ago. They never once promoted that site, and it was constantly littered with great articles.

They never had links to Grantland on ESPN. Now, however, I always see Grantland links and articles on ESPN. I always went right to Grantland to get them in the past.

Idk what happened, but the relationship between Simmons and ESPN is so weird and it's deterioration is so odd. It really does seem like they wanted him to fail.

O well, dude is the man, fvxk you ESPN.

Could impact ESPN and Grantland, but I think Simmons has already hit his high water mark as far as popularity and impact.

They did do a super shitty job of promoting a product that they owned. Seems odd that they refused to advertise for it considering it was the best content associated with ESPN.

Apparently at one point last week he had the top 4 most downloaded podcasts.

Simmons went into more detail during his first few new podcasts. He said that ESPN is great at inventing/starting something, but is terrible at keeping it going. The lack of prime space on the website for grantland articles and lack of mobile infrastructure were his big gripes.
