My question is. Clarett was inelighle to play for OSU. It wasn't a NCAA penalty. It was a OSU self imposed penalty.
Ok jump to the part where the courts denied him entrance to the NFL draft. At that point, why would Clarett not try to get onto a major college program? He had already sat out a year fighting the process, This is the part I need help understanding.

I wish they would have gone into more detail about the car he got from tressels guy and that whole ordeal. That's what started the whole downfall. The AD was a huge dickhead IMO, but Clarett didn't do anything to help that situation either.
He obviously made some really bad decisions, but glad to see he's on a good track at the moment

Alright I read up a little before responding. He officially declared. You are not allowed to play college sports again once you have declared. That is what I thought in the first comment I made but I was not positive. He made a knee-jerk reaction to enter the draft after being removed and fought through the process we all know failed. That made him ineligible. I believe it would have been hard from him to transfer, but he definitely could have done a Cam Newton JUCO thing.

Did I miss something? Why did he turn down the signing bonus?

Clarretts strip of Shaun Taylor is one of the all time great hustle plays in college history.
Definitely
That pass interference call in OT was horrible

Wanted to prove he belonged. Just another bad decision in a string of them from 2002-2007

Clarett didn't reach LeBron's level in terms of nation-wide media stardom. But he was an absolute legend on and off the field and by his senior year considered one of the greatest to ever play high-school football in Ohio.
He actually lost nearly 10 pounds from the end of his senior year up to opening day in Columbus by training like a maniac for so many hours a day. His senior year at Harding, he was a legit 5'11 235 pounds, and could bench 400+ and squat 600+.
He looked like an offensive guard and routinely injured opposing players. I'll never forget when he rushed for 411 yards and 5 TD's against 11-0 St Ed's -- a school that consistently pumps out tons of d-1 talent -- including delivering a vicious pancake shoulder charge without breaking stride on way to a 70 yard touchdown.
It's at 1:30 or so on his HS film, LINK , in which he doesn't get tackled until like the 6 or 7 minute mark.
As for what happened at Ohio State, I've never seen Clarett as a 'typical hoodlum', because he's not, although Youngstown is certainly full of them. He's intelligent and thoughtful in many ways. He's also definitely border-line manic/paranoid/OCD/narcissist, which allowed him to push himself from day one and grab the starting job. It came with problems, too.
Truly a tragic story. When he was 'on' mentally and giving himself 100% to the game, he approached Adrian Peterson territory, imo. The 200+ yard performance against a Washington State team that played in a BCS bowl and only allowed 1 other 100 yard rusher all year... Craziness watching upper-classmen linebackers bouncing off a freshman during the first few weeks of the seeason.
Alas, his running style invited a lot of punishment. He racked up great numbers at Ohio State despite being injured 2/3rds the year. The injuries would have accumulated and he probably would have worn out physically in the pros, even if he had fortified himself mentally.

More of the AD sticking it to Clarett rather than trying to help him out. Tyrann was supported through and through at LSU. I'm not saying he could've gotten his life in order after the fact, because we can all see he didn't. I just don't think OSU handled it correctly
Agree. We only heard one side of the story though.

Clarett was a true dumbass. OSU fricked it over but that's what happens. He made his bed and he surely laid in it. But judging by his tweets and stuff now it looks like he really has got his head on straight. Good for him to turn his life around. Most people don't.

Dont get the current hate for the guy because he has definantly owned up to his mistakes and he will do that for the rest of his life.
Obvious that he is trying to make a positive out of everything that happened. Crazy that he seems to be in such good shape.
But that doc was pretty weak. could have been more. tressle deserved more criticism.
And when will the black community learn to get out of the gangster culture. Jim Brown bragging about his gangsters does not set a good example for today's youth. It perpetuates the cycle that has taken place since the 60's.
I am a huge advocate of civil rights and I am in no way arguing against it. But a part(not the majority) of the black community has definantly responded to it in the wrong way. I am looking at you Jesse Jackson and friends.
