Better late than never.

Full Schedule

Not sure if this thread is worthwhile, or if it's better suited as a general poker discussion thread. I can always change the title or delete it.

I'm still debating playing the Giant event. The structure isn't great, and the rebuys will make it tough for someone with 1 bullet to keep up. But, for $365, I feel like I have to do it just for the experience.

Been here 10 years, but never played the WSOP.

I think I remember you from a betting thread or two.

1st WSOP I'm not attending in a while. Still checking out to see who's having a good series.

Play 2 in my lifetime. Not much into tournament. Not much luck. Although I remember the hands that knocked me out like it was yesterday.

These regular tournament players not named "fedor holz" either have a decent bankroll, selling significant portions, or getting backed to play these tournaments day in and day out.

I recall one year hanging out with a guy that was friends with Nam Le. The guy said Nam Le has yet to cash in any tournament so far. It was the midway through the series. Can you imagine how much money he was down? Probably over 80k, not counting expenses. I'll just stick with the cash game.

That's right. I played in the employee event a few years back and the $500 was worth the experience. It's the first event where they come out and make a big deal about the 'let's shuffle up and deal' so they had a big lead in and right before they said it they shot off $10,000 out of cash cannons placed around the room.

It ended up being my downfall bc I had plenty of singles to tip the waitress with and started playing too loose. One guy at the table behind me was sitting at the table alone waiting for it to fill up and they shot off the cash cannon directly into the back of one the monitors that tells you when the blinds changed. It dropped onto the table in front of him and he scooped up over $700 in about 10 seconds.

Ive played the collosus and 1500 horse so far. Also Ive played a few of the daily deep stacks. Either playing the 8 game or limit holdem next.

That's awesome. I never heard about that. I worked for Caesars for 8 years, but they always ran the Casino Employee event during the week when I was working.

How is the competition in these?

I thought about trying to make it out there for this, just for the experience. It's definitely a bucket list item I want to cross off before I get too old

One summer I gave a shot at 10/20, 20/40, and once 40/80 at bellagio. All I saw was people grabbing their stacks and cutting chips when they bet. It was a action and reaction with these players, the decisions were premeditated most of the time. LHE will get you on tilt big time bc 3-5 players are chasing you every hand. And the beats are brutal and you can your your arse more than NLHE.

I've played the main event 3x's along with several other $1500's. The lower level buy in WSOP's just aren't worth it honestly. You're gonna start that $365 with 5k chips and 30 minute levels. If you don't win your first significant hand you are already down to 10-20 big blinds.

Check out the tourneys at the Wynn. 12k-15k starting stack plus far better structure than The Giant will have or any tourney at Venetian. Then if you cash, play the $1k buy in mega satellite at the Rio to the main the first week of July.

i came up playing limit cash (live) when i first started playing poker back in the mid-00s. i was limit live and sngs online pretty much exclusively. it's a good way to humble yourself for sure

playing NLHE now i look back and wonder what the frick i was thinking back in the day. i could have been potentially good if i had played and put in work 10 years ago. but no i just stuck to limit

i mean it's a tournament so it doesn't really matter that much. the only people who have true edges in MTTs are guys who have the roll (either personal or via backers) to play 100/year and withstand the variance

No. The buy ins are $360 - $600. All of the "sharks" are at the WSOP or Venetian

Mike Matusow just went on one of the biggest rants Ive seen in the 10k dealers choice. Best laugh Ive had in awhile. Not sure who the dude is that sucked out on him.

Eta:James Obst. Cant remember his online name, but I know hes good.

Limit? That's the game where you can't protect your hand correct? No thanks for me.
