Yeah. Basically a play in game for the right to get outscored 24-2 over four games.

What happens if we win tomorrow and then lose in OT on Saturday?

If St. Louis wins tomorrow (in regulation or OT but not a shootout) Colorado would have to win against them in regulation on Saturday. You could see the very odd scenario of a tie game late in the 3rd period and Colorado pulls its goalie. (Similarly, if St. Louis wins in a shootout tomorrow, Colorado would have to win in regulation or OT on Saturday, but a shootout win wouldn't be enough, so Colorado would likely pull its goalie late in the 3-on-3 OT in that scenario.) If St. Louis loses tomorrow (whether in regulation or OT/shootout) then, yes, it's simply winner goes to the playoffs, loser goes home.

If Pens win (or lose in OT/shootout) tomorrow, and the Flyers lose to the Rangers Saturday afternoon (that game will finish before pre-game warmups begin in Nashville), I'd rest the big guns if I was Torts and be "okay" with a loss, because it'd be impossible to fall to WC2, and you could fall to WC1 (if NJ wins), which I think would be the better matchup for CBJ.

The ideal is Pens lose in regulation and then CBJ and NJ both win Saturday to play each other first round.

Of the possibilities, my preferred order is:

1) NJ with home ice
2) NJ on the road (this is EXTREMELY unlikely. Pitt would have to lose in regulation, CBJ win only in a shootout, and NJ win in reg/OT but not a shootout).
3) Pens with home ice (would happen with Pitt reg loss, CBJ win and NJ loss of any kind)
4) Caps
5) Pens on road
6) Atlantic winner (would happen with CBJ reg loss, Philly win and NJ win or OT/SO loss)

Pretty wild that we could still face that many teams with different home ice advantages

Yeah, there's too many permutations to contemplate. Right now, every team currently 2nd-5th in the Metro could finish in any of the slots save the Pens can't fall to 5th and the Flyers can't make it to 2nd (also, the Flyers still haven't clinched, though it would take a miracle).

With one game remaining:

Pens 98
CBJ 97
NJ 97
PHI 96

The Penguins playing first helps everybody, as they are the leader and it sets the table for what needs to be done. If the Pens even earn one point, since they own every tiebreaker, they are the 2-seed and everyone knows where they will be getting sent if they finish in each slot.

If the Flyers beat the Rangers in the afternoon game, then both the Devils and Jackets will be going full tilt regardless of the Penguins game, as they will both be playing to avoid falling to WC2 and a 1st round matchup with the Lightning.

The Jackets earned 28 out of their last potential 32 points and are still fighting to stay out of worst Eastern seed. That’s wild.

Also, how cool was it that the Sedin brothers completed 14 passes to each other and scored a goal assisted by the other on their last shift in Vancouver? Way to take a final bow for the home crowd.

In the event the Flyers and Panthers finish tied in points (96-96), ROW (39-39), points earned head to head (2-2) and goal differential, per the tiebreaking rules, they will play a play-in game under the following rules on Tuesday.

Really interesting. Means Philly would have to lose by two (and exactly two, not more or less) on Saturday for that to even be a possibility, because Florida would have to win both its games in a shootout (which means they'd finish +1 GD since they're -1 at the moment) for that to come into play since they're already tied in ROW, and Philly is currently +3.

That’s a crazy scenario. Has one of those tie breaker games ever happened before? I don’t ever remember one.

Berglund scores a hat trick. I hope Hutton gets the start tomorrow.
