I feel really sorry for the handful of folks who downvote this thread...it must suck not to "get it"

The Pelicans are a bubble team but may get in the tournament if they get a strong 8th grade season from their center, who is getting comparisons to Big Country Bryant Reeves.

Gonna need a clarification here....we talking about the Big Country who played at OK St, the Big Country who played in Vancouver, or the Big Country who played in Memphis? (for the record, Big Country played 2 pre-season games in Memphis and retired because he had become a fat-arse with a bad back and knees)

2. St. Aloysius – The Lions suffered a heart-breaking semifinals loss last year, that this new crop of 8th graders will look to avenge. Their front court looks like a linebacking corps with a 6’3 center, who looks like he already lifts on LSU’s campus, and a 6’1 power forward, who has a Bill Laimbeer mean streak. With these two down low, they should win the rebound battle every single game. With their size, look for them to clog the paint with a 2-3 zone and force opponents to beat them from the outside, but the coaching trio also likes to use their length with some 1-3-1 zone looks. They have some shooting but need those guards to take it to another level in order to cut down the nets on Hearthstone in March.

St Gerard has some talent and could make some noise this season. They will be another bubble team. I expect them to upset some ranked teams, but also drop some bad games.

As good as STM was last year, this 8th grade squad just hasn’t done much in their 2 years. I don’t expect them make the Elite 8. It is a down year for them.

I was so excited when my friend texted about this. This is the sole reason for the existence of the MSB.

realized Aloysius ran zone schemes. Guess that's what you have to resort to when you don't have the horses like St. George.

All the Catholic schools run zones because it's easy. They get to high school and can't guard the ball or play man because they've never had to. It's one of the reasons Catholic High sucks in basketball.

I wouldn’t say they suck but I completely agree about man being a detriment.. I’m of the belief that all youth basketball should be required to run man, it teaches better fundamentals and athletic ability and allows for more excitement in the offensive side

Not all schools run zone but definitely the majority does. It does help that Sportsplex league is man to man only.

So I have been out of grade school sense 1998.. but how is Holy Ghost (out of Hammond) been doing in basketball over the years? We were decent when I was there, but I know they had a decline for awhile.

This thread always reminds me of the good ole days when Marion Central was dominating middle school basketball.

Catholic High made it to the state semifinals in their class last season, and have a very good squad this year as well.

Most of the teams in 8th grade do run zone, but more teams did run man to man last year than previous years. I wonder if it will be a trend or was just a 1 year thing.
