The guy that touched it had a perfect line on it. Common sense tells you a guy wouldn't interfere like that unless he could tell it was a clear airball. The very slow motion replay seems to support that.

A. you can't review it (apparently)

B. The refs don't get the benefit of "very slow motion" to make the call live. Sans replay, it looked like goaltending right away

That ball would have hit the rim. I hate it, but it's goaltending.

Check the side angle.

No it wouldn't.

When I saw it live, I was certain that it was goaltending, so I can't fault an official for seeing it the same way. That said, replay makes it look highly unlikely that the ball was flying rim-ward.

The side angle is the dead giveaway.

If you see that replay and continue to argue that the right call was made, then you are just stubborn.

That being said, I guess you have to be smarter if you're the SMU guy.

Did Larry Brown have a timeout? You have to use it and settle your guys down there.

Check the top angle.

Yes it would.

He's such a blowhard. A guy that has been known to flex when his team wins.

That was a terrible call that you never see made. UCLA would not have even been complaining had they played on.

The UCLA coaches and players reacted to it right away before the ref even blew the whistle.

I think he had four, although they got two great shots from their best player so you can't ask for better.

Crazy game. UCLA rolling then a 19-0 run. Alfrod gets them within striking distance, they don't foul to extend the game (absolutely the wrong call), and get bailed out by a bad call. Both teams made plays and gave away points at the end there. Didn't even mention the 2 crazy turnovers.

The top angle is like the last angle you want to use to make that judgement.

Probably. Tough one for the officials. It looked exactly like goal tending. Any one of us would have made that call.

When I first saw it, it looked to me like the ball was shot too far and went over the front edge of the rim and missed the rim completely.

Then they called goaltending and showed the overhead view and I started second guessing.

But after seeing it from other angles, I think my original hunch was right. The ball was shot past the rim when he touched it.

That's like a quarterback throwing the ball 60 yards down field and getting a pass interference call on a ball his receiver had no chance to catch.

That ball isn't going in. Not coming close.

But that's the rules. Still, in the end, that wasn't the right call.

The rule is that if it's in the cylinder or is going to hit the rim, it's goaltending.

Since you seem to agree it wasn't going to hit the rim, it WASN'T the right call. But I agree with previous posters that it was a tough bang-bang call in real time.

Exactly. Hitting the rim is not important if it in not "in the cylinder". fricking terrible call.

the official that called it was in a bad position to even call it.
