They also lost to Sewanee 107 - 0 that same year.
Noboby could schedule anybody because CFB was so young. Sewanee was a power then and a charter member of the SEC.
Teams were playing their own alumni or local athletic clubs.
In 1916 the Pac-12 conference (PCC) was 4 teams...Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Cal.
SEC wasn't established until 1932. Sewanee was a charter member of the SEC, but it lasted only eight years with an 0-37 record in SEC games. It now resides in Division III. "The NCAA does not recognize an SEC national champion until Tennessee’s 1951 title."
The Big 12 was the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA) - with it's members being Mizzou, Kansas, Nebraska, Washington University (in St. Louis) and Iowa.

That was actually pretty informative.

quote:quote:
ohn Heisman is a huge dick who basically forced regular Joe college kids with no practice to play against the best college football team in the country and then decided to run up the score
the previous spring, Cumberland ran the score up on Heisman's baseball team, beat them 22-0
Cumberland also used ringers in that baseball came.
Cumberland's football team was a fraternity who came together to play the game so they didn't have to pay GT for canceling the game.
Heisman supposedly also wanted to point out how margin of victory was not a good measure when ranking teams so he intentionally ran up the score.

Cumberland should've given Butch more time, he was almost there

Accidental downvote. Awesome video. Heisman is Saban.
