I shite you not. 28%. I'm pretty happy with myself. 9 trades, never owning more than 2 stocks at a time. Put in 17k in January and have kept it working.

What were the trades? Shouldn't be hard to remember if it was 9 of them since January.

I have no clue. I'm in for the long haul. I check mine very infrequently. Was up over 32% last year.

I don't know anything about margins. I stay away from options because I don't understand them. I try to read up and educate myself, but I tend to only confuse myself more.

Right now I'm rocking a pretty even split between:

VDIGX - Vanguard Dividend Growth Fund - 1.60%

VWEHX - Vanguard High-Yield Corporate Fund Investor Shares - 3.28%

VGSIX - Vanguard REIT Index Fund Investor Shares - 12.66%

VTSMX - Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund Investor Shares - 2.02%

Not an awful start overall. Could be worse.

401k is all in VINIX so it's up whatever the S&P is up. It's a large cap vanguard fund that is by far the lowest expense ratio in my shitty 401k plan so I plow everything into it.

PA is up 6.1% including dividends, diversified(ish) long and short equities. Average about 70-60% net long. Typically short about 30% at any given time and close to 100% long.

Biggest gainer for me has been SRPT at a little over 100% since I bought it in January.

Biggest loser has been being short GMCR the day that Coca Cola announced their stake in the company.... Ouch

Margin is easy. It gives you the opportunity to potentially lose more money than you've got in your account.

But seriously, it is a relatively easy investment device, and is certainly much easier to understand than options. I'd say it is the next step-up for an individual investor, albeit not for everyone.
