Every now and then I’ll be surfing the web and reading financial news but when it links to a WSJ article, it’s a paywall. Just curious, and I assume a lot of you here are subscribers, do you read it regularly? Or is it kind of garbage when you’re looking at it all as a complete site reader?

If you can get one of their promotional deals, maybe. The regular price is very expensive, and unfortunately the quality of the WSJ has gone way down. I was a long time subscriber and let it go.

ETA: If you want the financial and investing info, skip the WSJ and read Barrons.

Barrons can be had for less than $10 a month. That’s my recommendation

As others have said, if you're only going to subscribe to one business publication then the cost-effective one is Barrons. Although the WSJ has certainly become a bastion for GOPe thought, I still find it the best among its peers (and I'm biased because I learned how to read the WSJ in business classes). I'm usually lifted by seeing right-leaning readers crucify GOPe and liberal leanings in the comments. There are a solid group of liberals who comment there. I ignore the worst of them and engage some of the others.

I subscribe at the cheaper price and mark on my calendar when to cancel before they raise prices on me. Usually, but not always, they will continue offering it for a discounted price. If they won't, then I cancel and just wait until I see it advertised on the cheap. It's a silly game that they play and I've complained directly to them.

EDIT: LOL @ 4 down votes. This made my morning.

I still enjoy the WSJ very much. Well it’s not what it used to be years ago they still put more thought into their articles reporting the most and is always a fun read

From a pure business perspective, you can get much better real time news using any number of Internet sources

I got a subscription to WSJ along with a few others for free from work not knowing if I would read them all the time.

Turns out I read the WSJ daily. I think WSJ hasn’t declined nearly as badly as other major print based journalism outlets like NYT, The Economist, or even the Chicago Tribune.

I would pay for the subscription if I didn’t get it for free. I would recommend it just because the quality of writing and wide variety of subject matter is a bit better than most of its peers.

yes, especially if you simply call and cancel your subscription when it expires and they will give you a good deal

If you're not sure, try apple news+, which includes most WSJ articles (although not all). It's pretty robust. Obviously this is only if you use apple. If I didn't use news+, I would not pay for WSJ.

Like others have stated, doing the promotional thing is the way to go. I did one a while back where it was something like $4/month for the next 12 months. Then I cancelled the subscription before the regularly monthly charge was going to kick in.

Within a month or two of cancelling, another promotion like that popped up in my email box, so now I’m back on, until the full price kicks in again.

Same. I was a subscriber for 24 years but just dropped it for the same reasons: Poor quality. Plus, as others have said, their reporting has a GOPe/McConnell Republican slant to it these days.

You can bundle the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s and Marketwatch for $1.50 a week for the first year.

This is what I did. WSJ is one of the monthly media subscriptions the AmEx platinum card will give you credit. I had about $4/month of the credit I wasn’t using so essentially got it free. I like it but probably won’t keep it when it goes up to pay regular price.

Yes it’s worth it, especially if you keep working them to get it at a big discount. You just have to play the game once a year.

Their general news coverage and reporting is as good as it gets. The editorial and opinion sections are obviously biased, but there are some good stuff sprinkled in there as well.
