The real money savings is not having Starbucks, or ordering drinks at restaurants. The alternative, water, is free and drinking coffee or booze at home is fairly cheap.

This. I almost always have water at lunch, and my colleagues used to think it odd. Then, they noticed my lunch bill was about 25% cheaper than theirs because they paid $3 for a Diet Coke.

And speaking of, I need to run by Whole Foods today to get some more coffee beans for the office...

I eat out every meal that I eat. Probably 16 or 17 meals a week. No way I could give that up

Yeah. Wife doesn't cook either. I will occasionally put a steak on the the grill but it's easier to just go somewhere. I don't want to know what we spend eating out. I tried to track it for a few months a couple of years ago and it was close to $1000 a week.

My wife and I spend around $325 per month eating out. (excluding months we travel)

We've cut back significantly on eating out 1) healthier options when you eat at home 2) save money

Last year between groceries and going to eat out my family of four spent $32k. Crazy part is I traveled about 100 days of the year as well and the per diem expenses aren't in that number.

It adds up quick. I normally go eat lunch 5 days a week then dine out with family one night and a weekend brunch. Throw in a couple happy hours during the week and you're at $375 a week before buying groceries
