Anyone know how to get your foot in the door at Dow, or another other big chemical company in BR area. Been trying to get a plant job for a while now but I have absolutely no luck.

Having a close relative is always a plus. What are you looking to do?

For ExxonMobil in BR, Google ExxonMobil e-employment. You should be able to navigate through there fairly easily and setup a login ID, upload a résumé, etc. That will get you signed up to take the test. If you were to get on with a contractor and work in Exxon, that would likely help you get your name out and get some references.

Thanks! Do you have any info about the test? Is it difficult? Is there a study guide? Whats on it etc... but again Thank You.

What are you trying to do in the plant? Do you have any qualifications or related experience?

Process Operation, Ive taken a bunch of classes and my last job I worked very closely with PO's. I always thought it would be the perfect career field for me.

Do the PTEC degree at BRCC or RPCC and you'll get hired

Google "Operations Battery Practice Test" or something like that and you will get an idea of what's on the test. I will try and remember to post back in this thread when I hear they're giving the test in BR and/or will be hiring. They've been hiring Process personnel pretty regularly the past several years. Good luck.

Does Dow/XOM plants hire a lot of contractors?
I know for the plants in Chalmette, a lot of the guys get hired on as contractors for a while, then from there eventually get hired on directly.

I work for Dow in operations they like the degree like most of the plants on the river do. I recommend rpcc over brcc simply way way cheaper. Good luck hope everything works out for you.

Did you have plant/operations experience?

This. With no prior operations experience, I believe it will be hard for you to just jump in one of those roles. You really need an "in" at one of these plants. What did you previously do?

Did you go through the internship first or directly to full-time technician?
Posted on 8/6/15 at 8:13 pm to NOLAManBlog
Internship which pretty much you have the job as long as you handle your business bc your already training your job in the internship.

I got on as an operator with no experience right before I graduated from Ptech school in Reserve. Some of my classmates did as well, through internships. Some of the younger guys with not much job experience at all got on with contractors. Most of those who got hired before graduation knew someone.
I do know people who graduated months ago and are still struggling to get hired.
Most of the new people hired by the company I work for know someone or are related to someone already working there.

Just bumping to let the OP know that XOM will be giving their Operations and Mechanical pre-employment test on December 3-5 in Baker.
