I have two choices. One shares a wall with my manager, has a big window and is right near the other people in my group's offices.

The other is further down the hall and is a corner office with windows on both outside walls. It is more secluded.

Which would you take?

Out of sight out of mind. Brown nose it right next to your manager.

You still have walls...you aren't taking an open office cube next to your boss. This is the better choice.

That's silly. Pick the corner office down the hall.

When i was working in corporate america, i shared an office with the boss. It sucked because

1. we didn't have anything in common(she's a woman).
2. I had to monitor what i said whenever one of my friends called.
3. I could never enjoy my restroom(morning, after lunch, and maybe one around 3:30) break because i like to take my time.
4. I'm not a brown nose so no point of being close to the boss all day.

This is kind of what I'm leaning toward. I wouldn't say I'm a brown noser per se, but I work in the oilfield and we've had a couple rounds of layoffs, so it doesn't hurt to get extra contact with my boss.

To me, 2 windows vs 1 window seems like the only relevant point.

It would never have occurred to me that sharing a wall with the boss would somehow give you a leg up on anything.

The one's calling you a brown nose will be the one's that don't take doing a good job seriously. You will be better in tune with your manager and company needs. This will allow you to be proactive in finiding solutions for issues that come up. Being ambitious is not something you have to explain.

I have the office everyone called "the Dungeon". No windows and the door leads to a hall that I get brief glimpses of others walking by. It took about a day before I decided to turn it into my own personal man cave. Now everyone wants this office

I like being close to the staff on our team, so I would choose this one for this reason.
