What's your living situation when you are retired?

Same house as now? Condo? Moving to another state?

Look for smaller square footage, larger lot, fewer neighbors. Haven't decided on the state yet. Taxes will be a factor

What sucks about getting old and living your house is maintenance. The routine cleaning would wear you out. Sure, you could hire a maid. But think of all the things you have to maintain and replace and dealing with contractors...ugh.

Planning on a small house on a small lot that is relatively new.
Least maintenance possible.
Don't like condos or townhomes. Don't want a bunch of land to maintain.

The biggest problem for a lot of people, especially when health problems start to prevent an active lifestyle, is that they just get bored.

Split our year between House on a lake and camper/RV in various national parks

Lose to LSU, fire your DC. Lose again the next year, fire your OC. Beat the worst A&M offense in 20 years, wave towels that say "Texas A&M is our rival" and carry your coach off the field.
aggy is not and has never been a rival of LSU!

1. Y'all printed and handed out the "texas A&M is our rival" towels at our game
2. Beating us saved Les miles job
3. Wrong board for this stuff, take it to the rant

depends on economic climate among other things. We've stayed in the house we are in now our whole marriage and it's paid dividends as I paid it off in 18.5 years on a 30 year mortgage. I could have paid it off sooner but that's not bad all problems considered we have been through with job loss, medical debts, other debts, helping family, etc.
I'm thinking of buying a cottage up in nova scotia for a semi retirement home later possibly close to where my buddy LSUcanFan lives. he has a nice summer cottage vacation home on a lake. Thought about a condo on beach on redneck riviera for the rest of the time if the need arises. Couldn't see moving to Roatan for retirement. too damn far away. yes, i know canada is a long way from here as well but they have way more to offer in regards to close last minute healthcare among other things than honduras. Which is something to consider when you are old.

great plan. That option is on the table for us as well as far as buying an RV and touring.

Goes without saying...y'all are good people.

Condo, in a warm climate city with decent public transportation/cabs. All on one level, with a nice terrace or porch. Little/no maintenance, easy to negotiate with limited mobility or vision, and in a place where not driving doesn't mean an end to socialization....hence the city w transit. May I live long enough to worry about such things, and have enough funds left to have choices.
Have watched many family members aging in place, and it's so often the worst choice. Familiarity to so many is more important than safety, comfort, or new opportunities. Why hang onto a huge family home when you live alone? Why cling to acreage/farmland you over, hunt on any longer, or even see?

my dad is 84 and does his yard work, maintains his garden, and cleans his house. he won't let me do any of it for him! keeps him busy. he paces himself but he gets it done.
