Just wondering, there is a large contingent in the building that I work out of and they like to preach their pie in the sky rhetoric

Seems like a financial pyramid scheme to me. I talked to one of the agents one time and rather than offering me any products or services, she tried to get me to join in.

Overpriced products. You can get way better value elsewhere in the marketplace.

The agent gets more money if you join and sell products.

Thing is...you can do Primerica on the side (part time). Not so much with Edward Jones.

This. One of my friends was trying to get me involved. After he laid it all out I was like ehhh I'll get back to you on that.

It is a MLM scheme. Why would anyone in their right mind take financial advise from someone who doesn't even do that job full time nor take the time to get any credentials?
A friend of mine talked to one of the guys he knew that got sucked into the Primerica scheme. He said he was going to retire in 3 years because he was going to make so much money recruiting people blah blah blah...he didn't last 5 months, maybe he wised up and GTFO.

I guy I know, not really a friend, tried to recruit me to this crap too. He's the type of guy who was always chasing get rich quick schemes so I didn't really believe anything he was saying. I wouldn't take any advice from him either. Especially not financial advice.

Collis Temple has made a shitton of money doing this. But he's also well known in the community.

quote:Your comment made me google this. Collis has done quite well. I knew him growing up and am not surprised - he was a very hard worker that always got the most out of his ability in all facets of life.

Edited to Add: There is nothing in the video to dispel the common view that Primerica is an investment products version of a multi-level marketing scheme - just linked as an update on a local guy doing well in his chosen career path.
To answer the original question, I definitely view Primerica as a MLM, sort of a financial Amway.

Abram Booty has made a pretty nice business out of it, too, up in north LA/E. Texas. I actually sat down with him for lunch one day to talk primerica, and during the conversation, I asked him what percentage of people didn't make it, and his response was something like "We don't keep track of those people."
This, plus the fact that you sell to your friends and family first- there's nothing I'd rather do less than discuss financial information with my close friends.
