What do you think about the 2055 Target Date Fund in general?

I'm following.

Nothing terribly wrong with this in my opinion. I am not so sure I would have that much Int'l exposure.

Vanguard Total Stock Mkt Idx Inv N/A 53.91%
Vanguard Total Intl Stock Index Inv N/A 35.90%
Vanguard Total Bond Market II Idx Inv N/A 7.06%
Vanguard Total Intl Bd Idx Investor N/A 2.94%

Ok thanks! What I think I'll do instead of opening a three fund portfolio immediately is go ahead and take $3k and open the traditional IRA, then dump the money into VTSMX. Once I get that up to about $10k, I'll open a bond fund as well, which would give me 70/30 allocation. I don't really want to start out with 50/50 allocation when I can tolerate the risk involved with total stock. Do y'all think this is a sound idea?

dont you already have an IRA? may want to make a general savings taxable account instead so you wont be capped on contributions

Good point. I have a Roth 401k with work that's in Blackrock. Then I have my private Roth IRA with the 2055 TDF.

I'll max the Roth IRA out again this year, so I guess a general savings account with Vanguard would probably be the way to go. Man this is a lot to keep up with.

yeah it is.

Does the Roth 401k and Roth IRA work off same contribution limits? I think they do but I could be wrong

If you are less than age 30, you don't need to fool with bonds. Go for the stock appreciation and dividends

No, 401k limits are separate from IRA limits.
