Been working with a salesman for a new vehicle at a dealership around 200 miles away. They have the vehicle I want in the color I want at the best price. The problem is trying to nail down a number for my trade. I know they need to see it before they give me a final number, but I was wondering if there is any other way to get a close figure without making the long drive. I have given them all the info, sent pics, etc. and they are stalling on giving me a number. I am afraid if I drive all the way there this weekend they will not give me a good number and hope I will take it anyway since I made such a long drive.

Any advice?

KBB.com will give you the "trade-in" value.

Good luck!

I have run the numbers through KBB and I would be happy to get what KBB says its worth. I am just afraid of the dealership throwing a good number at me over email and then changing it once I get there. I guess that is the risk I take buying out of town.

They should be able to give you a good number before seeing it.

They need. VIN, miles, equipment and trim level, a good description about condition and some pics.

They should be able to give you a firm number that only changes if you left something out of the condition report. If they don't do that I'd move on.

Edmunds is another good site. I used the figures from there to negotiate trade-in a few months ago.

Just tell them you need a ballpark offer before you drive all that way, and if it is fair, you'll buy the car. A reputable dealership should have no problem doing that.

See if you can get an estimate- maybe send him some pictures and be honest about the condition- if it needs new tires, stains on the interior, etc. They should be able to get within a couple hundred bucks.

I purchased my current truck from a dealership in Nederland, TX and I am in ascension parish. I also traded in my old truck. The entire deal was worked over the phone. They even paid an older retired fella to drive my new truck to me and drive the trade in back to Texas. I didn't see my new truck in person until it arrived in my driveway, and they didn't see my trade in until it arrived in their lot. All the paperwork was done at my kitchen table. Don't let them get one over on you, deals like this can be done.

Correct. He will most likely give you an unseen price...at least I would. Then tell you price can be adjusted according to condition.
