Just bought our first house and getting it insured through USAA was very happy with rate. But tried to get both cars and the rate was $90 more per month than geico. My parents had usaa my whole life and always had great things to say about them.

I've been with USAA for the past 16 years. I do recommend them and have most of my financial products with them.

They have expanded a lot over the past 5 years and the customer service isn't what it used to be as they seem to have an A, B, and C customer service team. C team works the weekend so make a mental note.

Don't provide false information from your anecdotal experience. I've beeb with them for the past 8 years and their customer is top notch. Probably in the top 10% in the country.

The one frustrating thing with usaa is that when you call, even if it's abt one small thing, it's never a short call bc they are so helpful it's hard to get off the phone.

I've talked to usaa people outside of their work and on the phone conducting business and they have admitted to me my beliefs. ( I know people who work in San antonio, phx and Las Vegas)

Please fully read my post. Still a customer after 16 years but they've experienced growing pains as they've allowed more people to join and have upped marketing to attract eligible.

My husband is a 32 year member and he fully agrees with you.

That said, we would both recommend USAA (especially insurance).

yea I don't understand the recent marketing campaign. I'd like to know why they are trying to attract so many new people.

I have been a member for over 10 years as well. Customer service is great, but I only use them for checking, savings, home and auto insurance. No other insurance companies come close to their premiums. However, I found that they are not competitive at all on auto loans or mortgage rates.

Also, I had my Roth with them, but they charge a fee for each trade. I moved to Fidelity because they at least have some options without any trading fees. Also, the layout on Fidelity was more user friendly.

And they've outsourced things like the roadside assistance service. You no longer deal with USAA personnel for this, but a paid contractor. I found the contracted service provider to be less responsive than I recall when USAA handled this function.

Increased insured pools lowers the variance of payments typically allowing a decrease in reserves. Additionally, it provides more claims experience on insured populations for USAA which decreases adverse selection issues.

While customer service goes down, rates go down along with it. Trade off but as long as they are above a certain threshold it shouldn't be a problem.
