Just started new job this week, time to fill out W4. Haven't filled one of these out in years.
I'm married with one child, wife doesn't work. I don't want govt sitting on my refund all year, so looking for advice..thanks

I can't ever get mine right

We both work and my income is significantly more than hers, so it gets all complicated

2) Tell them epic selective power surge destoyed your records
3) Threaten them

Plenty of calculators online, but I would ballpark you at claiming four. That said, go find a calculator.

Having our 1st child in Sept, would that count as a dependent for 2014? Specifically would I put as a dependent under "D"?

Edit: married, make double my wife's pay

I'm married, make just a little more than the wife, and have one child. I marked married with two allowances. Just hoping that works

Damn, you will prolly owe ton at the end. With both working, I would have yall both mark married with 0 allowances
ETA: Maybe have you mark 1 allowance, maybe

He gave way too little information for you to make this assumption.

No, not really. With a two income family with only one child, to claim 2 allowances and married, he will most likely owe a very good bit at the end

ETA: 95% chance he will owe alot. Only chance he wont is if him and his wife make very little, or if they have a ton of write offs

He should probably fill out the "Two-Earners/Multiple Jobs Worksheet" right?

If you are in a two income family and want to clain married on your W4, you usually have to claim 0 and withhold additional to keep from owing. Not always, but usually

Correct. Which will actually most likely tell him to claim 0 and withhold additional. To claim 2 allowances could be a wowzer at the end of the year.

How is that done? "A" says enter "1" for yourself if no else can claim you as a dependent.
When you go and fill out the two income worksheet, it will usually kick out and tell you to go back and enter 0 at the top

Well I revisited my w4 today and went from filing M3 to filing M0+150

At least the hit won't be as bad since I caught it in June, but I'm still gonna owe.

But shite, I was way off

Yeah we just got married a couple months ago so we're figuring this out. I'm not too knowledgable on all this and I figured you got more of a tax break when you were married
