I'd go to the Ethereum thread ASAP.
1) I AM serious.
2) you can "index" buy buying whole indices via ETFs or mutual funds. This will hopefully gain 5-10% per year over the long haul.

You can buy individual stocks, which requires more research but yields greater return.
These are two different philosophies. Most people do both.
Check the sticky thread for terminology. I'll try to add to it this summer. Welcome aboard
ETA: Don't just think about buying stock. Investing in equities, real estate, (or even cryptocurrency) is a MUST in life. If you have the ability, you can't afford not to.
