The market has been heading south since early 2022. This is just another event that is helping it to go lower.

Don't worry about your 401k at all if you're 55 or younger.
The markets double every 5-7 years. This is a fact.
Any 20-30% market downturn should be met with agressive buying. So, if there's anything you should do, it's contribute more to your 401k if possible.

If you're 60+ years old you might need to seek advice that is more specific to your situation.

I’ve wondered for a long time if a big part of the modern era market gains, or at least stability, have been the popularity of 401k and the like where employees automatically buy every payday no matter the market conditions. And will it downturn when the boomers all retire and start withdrawing/selling while there are fewer employees in the younger generations making contributions/buys?

I hope not, because I’m planning to retire right after most boomers do.

el Gaucho trolling is like the pictures at doctors offices back in the day that you had to study for a minute to see the picture. But once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Inflation is still way too high and the Fed is too hawkish right now.

Workers based in the U.S. aren’t the only ones buying U.S. equities.

Maybe your generation should have a few kids? Shrinking population will definitely have an impact.
