Your homeowners seems really high for $236k dwelling coverage. I'd call a few independent agents and have them do the shopping for you. I use Quality Plus Insurance out of Lafayette. Super nice family owned business.

You must not be from around here. Anything less than 1% of coverage A is a deal in south Louisiana. His price is a great deal on homeowners.

I'm speaking from my limited experience....
$909 annual premium for the Covington/Madisonville area

$305,000 Dwelling
$15,250 other structures
$152,500 personal property
$61,000 loss of use

$300,000 personal liability each occurance
$5000 medical each person

Deducts
Hurricane (2% Coverage A)
All other perils $1,000

I know Federated National is usually much lower than others, but I did get another quote for ~$1550 annual premium

Have you called Allstate recently and ask about any new discounts?

I don't think your homeowners is actually with allstate insurance company. Might be with their north light company.

I'd see what lowering your contents coverage to 50% saves. Also increase your liability to 300k. Other than that, your total premium is not bad. But there's still many variables with your credit score, age of home etc. Only an independent agent can quote you with other carriers to see if he can compete. Safeco auto might be your best bet to shop that w/ independent agent too. But your premiums aren't bad at all to be honest.

This is not a norm especially on southshore.

From what I'm looking at it is with Allstate. He probably has an older policy with Allstate, something prior to 2004. North Light has a different policy declarations.

I don't have $180,000 in personal property inside that house

Where do they come up with that # and is that not high?

ETA - just looked it up. Wonder what dropping it from 75% to 50% would save.

Also - I'm in Lake Charles FWIW

I'm about to be shopping as well. State Farm just went up on my auto insurance with no tickets and no claims ever made!

More premium money for them I would imagine.

I think it can be no lower than 50% of dwelling value for personal property so that is what you should do.

Usually personal property coverage is 50% of the dwelling limits. In your case it's 75%. Other structure coverage is usually 10%.

When there is a total loss. Personal property quantity and value appreciates rapidly since you get to complete the list of contents
