Anyone here know about the starting salary for a basic EMT position at Acadian Ambulance? My son just got his certificate and is ready to go to work somewhere while he goes to school to be a paramedic. Thanks

My wife go that training/certification a few years back, in case she got laidoff from her current job. So in 2011, starting was $13 dollars an hour. OT was available.
(that was in New Orleans)

Man that seems terribly low for a first responder that could be in charge of keeping me alive.

First responders don't make much money at all. They all have weekend/ OT duty and work a second job to make ends meet. I've never understood why someone would put their life on the line for damn near minimum wage. Some say it's the benefits, but an education with a promising career has much better benefits and standard of living.
I've got much respect for the first responders, just don't see how they do it.
