They seem to be taking it on the chin more than the other majors. Any reason why or this still stemming from the big right downs they are making from pulling out of AK?

Thinking about picking more up, help offset the arse whopping I am taking with FCX.

Yea but its a long term hold with them, not too worried about that. FCX on the other hand, its dropping like a rock. Talk about a bad stuck offshore impulse buy, after looking more into their financials thinking about just cutting my losses, any feeling on them?

Yea, long term, it will be OK for RDS. They are a large holding of mine. I just wish they would have waited on the BG deal

ETA: Not really familiar with FCX. I just pay attention to the blue chipppers

I bought some today, I think they'll be fine long term, and at these prices, it's got like an 8% dividend

I bailed on shell for a small profit earlier this year when I said I would "hold for 30 years".

Glad I did, but thinking about buying again. I have been putting majority of my Roth IRA into VGENX though, so I don't know if I need more oil exposure. The BG deal could be enough to axe the dividend, idk...

I stand firm on avoiding FCX. The plains acquisition was a horrendous move in hindsight.

That was an incestuous move that should have landed a few people in jail.

I agree. When Rich Kinder starts slashing his dividend then I expect many to follow. Smart people don't chop their dividend by 75% if they expect a quick turnaround.

What is yalls opinion on Sgy? I opened a position on them last week hoping for a quick bump.....yikes.

Even worse than y'all with fcx......I bought some gultu last year. I feel like I have the reverse Midas touch.

Some hope for y'all on shell, I read an article the other stating the bg deal may still get nixed, and to get out of it would be relatively cheap.

I would not be buying energy stocks and hoping for quick bumps because the downside FARRRRRR outweighs the upside. If you want to buy and hold for long term, sure. Buy and hope for a jump? Hell no, especially the direction oil is moving

I don't need the money in the short term and a long term hold isn't bad either, but was hoping to trade in and out on the volatility.

So generally speaking, if one were to be in a position to buy Shell stock at say an average discount price of 15%, would you do it?

Do it. I think it was called GESPP when I worked there. Max it out.
