Would be managing eight guys and overseeing the logistics of roughly 75 boats & 160 barges. Office is in New Orleans.

I have close family in the tow boat business on the river and there is tons of money being made by those in the industry. You are probably one of three companies I know but either way you should be making a minimum of 100k.

How does a student get into this field? Know the right people? I'm an International Trade & Finance major and plan to go into logistics after graduating. I've found it hard to find internships and contacts for maritime transportation companies/etc. The companies usually aren't big firms and are hard to locate if you don't know what you're looking for. Logistics isn't the "cliche" business profession that accounting/finance tends to be which can be a good thing but it also seems hard to get into the business. Any advice would be great. Thanks for your help and good luck

ETA: My uncle started out as a grain/re-frig bed truck broker in Ark and has moved up quite a bit over the years. I've always been interested in transportation/distribution due to him.

I have nothing of importance to add.. but I'm about to start my junior year as a logistics major. Pretty excited about it.

When I was doing interviews for software development positions before graduating college, the companies had a tendency to bring all of the candidates together that were onsite interviewing for different openings. I couldn't believe the number of logistic majors in the room that were interviewing. Every one of them had interviews with companes spread across the southeast/midwest region. I felt pretty out of place even considering that my degree is in high demand.
