Safest Way To Buy Something Online From China

I'd like to buy something online from a seller in China. They accept Visa. I'd rather not use my actual Visa for security reasons. I've read that some banks offer "virtual" credit card #'s, which is basically a randomly generated # attached to your credit card account that is only good for 1 use and then it expires. I have a Chase and Capital One credit card and I've been all over their websites looking for this feature, but don't see it. I've got an email into Chase now as well.
Other than that, I could do a prepaid Visa, but I remember hearing that those wouldn't work when trying to send money to China. Is this true?
How should I pay?

Visa gift card maybe?
Apparently those can't be used on International purchases anymore?

let me know how that works out for you. I have gotten a one off number from my capital one acct before but that was years ago.

They don't accept PayPal. I'm lucky they accept Visa. Most want Western Union, but f that.

According to the Chase website, they don't offer a virtual number - but BOA and Citibank do, which doesn't look like it will help you. It really is a nice feature, and I've actually used it to buy something from China.

Go to a store and purchase a temp prepaid Visa card .
Works perfectly fine and you won't have to use your actual card.
I purchase through China at times via third party websites and this is how I do it when they don't accept PayPal. Lots of people are refraining from PayPal because of how long payments take

I went to a store to buy a prepaid Visa. Upon reading the terms on back, they all said for use in US only. Can't use for a payment to China unfortunately. Used to be able to use prepaid prior to 2012, but 95% of them don't work internationally anymore. Having a very hard time finding the few that do.

Your bank should have an international department whereby you can wire the funds from your checking account to the Chinese companies account. You will be charged about $25-$40 by your bank. While the transactions are safe, just be careful that you don't get scammed as doing business in China can be very tricky. What is the total value of what you are buying including freight, duty etc? Do you have a way to verify the company you are doing business with their is legit?
To answer your question, the safest way to do buy something from China is to use a letter of credit in conjunction with hiring a reputable cargo inspection company, but the seller has to agree to this method.
