Just wondering, if century 21 is charging a seller say 6%, what amount of that does the agent get?

A standard 6% commission will be split between the sellers agent! and the buyers agent. Each agent will take 3%.

3% + 3% = 6%. No one person makes 6% unless dual agency is established, and usually then the broker will discount %.

The percentage an affiliate pays brokerage is anywhere from 0% - 25%, depending on how their contract was negotiated.

Trill, 99.99999999% of all contracts clearly state commissions will be paid to an active participating member of local real estate commission. Your license needs to be hanging at a brokerage, otherwise, you'll be complaining here again shortly.

0% - 25% to brokerage?? In Louisiana, you would be very lucky to get off paying only 30% to your broker and many pay as much as 50%. Company I work for caps the company dollar annually and you will get 100% after that. Up until cap, it is a 70/30 split before franchise fees.

We actually end up with very little of that 6% or whatever in our pocket.

40% seems to be the standard in Baton Rouge for the major brokerages

No shite Sherlock , you amaze me how you act like this is rocket science. I have a friend that owns a real estate company and is also the principal broker, I'm signing up under him and giving him a %.

I can see that. Median priced home in my market is almost 400k, so brokerage can be a little more generous to agents and still make more $ than average brokerage in LA.

50% is a joke.

Trill, congrats on having skin in the game, good luck.

No E&O ins, association dues, MLS fees, desk fees?

You'd be out a little more the $250 in my market. Guess your local association doesn't have operating costs like ours. Or they do and you're lying, clueless, or both.

The first of many checks you will write. As someone else mentioned, it doesn't come cheap belonging to your local realtor's association, paying MLS fees, E&O and a multitude of other things that come up. Also, you might want to change your attitude a bit - the customer is always right you know. At least that is what you have always told us other real estate agents.

All jokes aside, you do take on a lot of liability and need to show some professionalism. I hope it works out for you. I've been doing it for many years and it has worked out well for me.
