Question about Stop Sell Orders

So I bought a small position in Nuvogen (NVGN) today at $4.08. It has been up to as much as $5.45, sliding a little now.
Say I want to place a stop sell order to lock in some gains, say at $4.75, IF and only if the price goes down to that target.
Or can other investors (institutional, or otherwise) see my order and snag it at my sell price regardless of what the current price is?

No, the market price would have to hit 4.75 in order for your order to become active

you do have to be careful with this, especially on a stock like this that is thinly traded and volitile. your stop loss order at 4.75 becomes a market order unless you place a limit on it...if the stock trades at 4.75, your 'market' order is initiated and the best bid at that time is 4.2 or something...you could sell at below what you thought you were going to get.
using a stop/limit order, you could enter the stop price, then the stock would only be sold if you received the limit bid
better explation

...on some stock message boards I have seen some comments about people seeing a buy order, or a sell order at a certain price and I can't figure out what they are referring to

People with Level 2 will be able to see your order. It won't execute though until a bid is put in at that price.
