I own GAIN. If I were to sell today (today is the ex div date), do I still get the dividend?
TIA

Yes as you were the holder on record. The ex dividend date basically resets the value of each share for future dividends.

Thanks
Now, another question. Let's say I did not own GAIN, but I bought it today, would I get the dividend?

If you bought today you would not receive the dividend. If you sold today you would receive the dividend

No, as the holder on record determination occurs before the ex dividend date

wouldn't that be your brokerage though?

You own the shares, not the brokerage.

There are scenarios though where this happens especially with some the newer small investment apps such as stash.
