Paying for a $4,000 trip. Should I sign up for a credit card for rewards?

My trip is due in full 5th of May, over $4000.00. I could pay it all now but I'm wondering if I should sign-up for a credit card and pay it off with that. I don't have any credit cards (not a CC type of person) but I have a credit score of 755 last I checked.

If I do this, how much will my credit take a hit for the inquire and will the card come in before my trip balance is due?

Yes you should, but I'm not sure what's the best offer out there right now. Probably chase sapphire preferred. Your score may take a dip now but in the long run it will help since you basically have no lines of credit available without a card.

I bought a house recently. After the close I opened a cc bc I was about to buy a bunch of furniture.

Came away with a free flight to Europe.

I don't see any downside. Do it.

Yes. I got a Chase Sapphire Preferred to pay for a flight to Europe and hit the bonus on my trip a couple years ago.

Kind of pissed. I applied and wasn't instantly approved. Got an email saying they will let me know a decision in the mail and it could take up to 30 days. I don't have 30 days. Any suggestions?

With Chase? Either go to a Chase or Cap One branch locally. Should be able to take care of you.

Probably should be planning next year's trip with credit cards...though if you are able to get two credit cards for this trip, you should easily be able to save a grand.

Just called and was approved. Definitely going to take advantage. I'm pretty upset with myself for buying the plane tickets (delta) before doing this. Any recourse, or just a lesson learned?

I think it'll have to be a lesson learned. What card did you get?

Chase Sapphire Preferred. What do you think?

I think you should put your whole trip on the card and redeem the points later for another trip. I also think you should get an airline specific card and one or two hotel cards. That way, your next $4,000 trip will be almost free.

This assumes an upper 700s credit score and the ability to spend the money to meet the minimums...or you can manufacture spending. Do LOTS of reading on this. Become obsessive!

Yea I plan on putting the whole trip on the card. Trip isn't until September though. Credit score is sitting at 755. What cards do you suggest? I'm just very hesitant to apply for more cards because of the hard pull.

We did, wife needed some hotel points for a girls trip later in the summer, Chase IHG card, 60k points after the first $1000 in 3 months, 5k extra for adding a user, plus we are staying at an IHG hotel so we will earn extra rewards this trip.

I love the IHG, Hyatt, and hear many good things about the SPG.
I have the Barclay Arrival plus MasterCard and love it too. Great value with that one, and it's really flexible.
