Does anyone have experience with owning and maintaining ATMs as a business?

I didn't even know this was possible for a person to do

If you can get a good location, you can make a little money.

I think the ones in gas stations are usually independently owned.

Talked to a guy yesterday that owns 33 throughout Mississippi and he pulled in about $10k last month

Still, the startup costs for that must be astronomical. I'd be curious to see his profit broken down to yearly rate of return.

If the owner of the gas station does not own the ATM in his own store...

Automatic telling machine machines are very profitable.

I was actually thinking about this in Tuscaloosa this weekend after drunkenly paying a $2.75 ATM fee at Moes. Seems like owning an ATM in a bar would be smart (though most are probably owned by the bar) and owning one on the strip in Tuscaloosa or somewhere similar would also be good. Not sure on the startup costs involved or the process of going about it though.

Very profitable business.....get a good location (good location for these machines may mean your poorer regions), place the machines, profit.
The guy I know that does this makes all his own service calls and cash replenishment. He probably works a 40 hour week in total servicing 40 machine in a 3 hour radius.
If one of his machines send an alert text at 3:00am, he is up and traveling to that machine to service it....he takes care of his cash cow.
His toughest part was raising the capital for the machines - also, he had to partner up to get placed in some lucrative places (bingo hall, DMV authorized agent office, etc.). You will have to split revenue to get I these desirable areas.
