Opinion of Carmax?

Looking for a used F150, CarMax has a couple that I like, the prices seem fair compared to what Edmunds, and Kelly bluebook show. I hate haggling with the regular dealers so being able to walk in and buy is a plus, is there a downside I should look out for? Not trading in, and will be paying cash.

Carmax is less hassle. But the offset is you're not likely to get the cheapest price. My wife and I used it to test drive a lot of different makes/models all at one dealership.

Cross the border to Texas to get our vehicle. Considerably better prices. Just search Autotrader within a 300 mile radius for the kind of vehicle you want, LA dealers can't touch their prices.

Why is that true? I've noticed that about Texas and Florida, too. Something shady going on there?

Carmax buys alot of old rental vehicles. I noticed that when looking for a used f-150. I don't like buying old rentals.

I will NEVER buy from CARMAX. Reason being, I brought my truck in to get an estimate and they gave me more than any other business had offered. That sounds good right? Well they said they had their "technicians" look over the vehicle and gave me GREAT tires, good paint job, and perfect engine. I had one back tire that had an egg. I did some personal touchup on my driver side door that didn't look that great, and my engine had some really bad damage to it. So knowing that they gave my vehicle a REALLY GOOD rating and I know it wasn't, I 'll never buy because I'm too afraid I'd be buying a vehicle that's in REALLY GOOD condition but in reality, it's about to blow up.

I bought a vehicle from Carmax right out of college. I had a good experience and liked the no haggling sales.

No, I assume it's because there is more supply. I would never buy a vehicle in this state.
