I bought some shares of this at $52 about 19 months ago. I was impressed that they had recently decided to raise their dividend.

Immediately after I purchased these shares, it suffered bad news--a fire at a plant cost them some money.

So it has been below what I paid for it for most of the time I have owned it.

But it is considered a strong stock and it has rebounded. Finally, it is above what I paid for it. It's now >$56 and it's rated a slight buy.

I have had second thoughts about investing in the domestic steel industry, and I am thinking of selling it, if it reaches $60.

The capital gains would = 6 years of dividends.

Analysts believe the stock will continue to rise through 2017.

What do you guys think?

I would think it does well if Trump wins

I actually work for Nucor in Alabama, and I'll be getting 5 shares when I reach my 5th year with them in November.

I get 10 more in 5 more years and so on, and I'll probably keep them until I retire.

I have to agree, if Trump wins the election, you could see a spike in the cost per share.

Is it rude to ask how many shares you have?

My brother in law is an engineer there. Says they have been steady with orders. I'd hold for now

That's kind of stingy
But then again, nothing beats free

Was thinking the same thing. $55/yr? That's less than $5/month. But yeah, free is free...

Because we are anonymous I don't think it's rude.

Anyway this is the internet where there generally is little etiquette anyway.

I would definitely hold onto your current shares. With the oil and gas market depressed sales are down for all mills. When it rebounds in 2018 Nucor stands to potentially gain the most.

Anti-dumping has been filed on nearly all steel products including plate. The filings have not been finalized but encompass nearly all decent mills including Western Europe, Korea, and Japan. When oil and gas demand returns Nucor will be the first to reach capacity.

Nucor is also going to release X-65 beams into the market likely later this year. Current only Arcelor produces these. Nucor should dominate the market.

Long story short, I consider most the domestic steel mills solid plays right now. There has been a major push in the last two years to greatly hinder imports.

I wrote a portion of an application for Nucor back in 2012ish I think.

I don't know if it's kosher to say what application.
